You use these molds and this special pumper base to make all kinds of little Pokemon characters that you could use for finger puppets or pencil toppers. Today I am reviewing about one of a kind Pokemon Character Maker Play – Doh. She hasn’t changed too much outside of her new tied-off shirt and belt, but she certainly has the same personality as before as well as her signature Torkoal. Finally, we were correct in the previous analysis that the hot springs Gym would be Lavaridge, but this time we get our first look at Flannery. Like the others, we know that at least his Magneton will be returning for his team. Like his Gym, Wattson hasn’t changed too much, still wearing his yellow overalls though they’re emphasizing his laid-back nature by putting him in an electric variation of a Hawaiian shirt and a pair of sandals. In the original, the switches were only a single color so it may have been updated enough to give it a bit more challenge. To get to Wattson, a puzzle involving lightning rods and colored switches must be solved. Mauville Gym seems mostly the same to its original incarnation outside the visual upgrade. Finally, Brawly’s Makuhita returns as well. It seems designed to emphasize his workout motif which is obviously fitting. He looks much more muscled this time around and has gotten a tan and some new sunglasses. It would explain the new running shoes that Brawly wears. Is it simply to lower a wall and it’s already been done? That’s not really a puzzle so what would be the point? Even Brawly’s room is filled with treadmills and some kind of fitness display. The player runs past the first trainer, meaning that she’s already been beaten, and steps on the switch where we can hear a click. What we’re not sure of is what the new floor switches do. The walls are lined with posters advertising weight lifting giving the sense that it’s a true Gym. This can be seen from the moment you enter as even the Gym Guide is standing behind a counter like a clerk. Gone are the empty hallways and instead the Gym has been made to look like, well, a gym. Next up is Dewford Gym which also has a massive overhaul. We’ve already talked about Roxanne herself at length in our previous analysis, but now we can also see that she still has a Nosepass in her team. One of the cooler Easter eggs though is the display with the original map of Hoenn for a nice little callback to the classic games. The rest of the displays contain digging tools and several types of fossils including ones that resemble the Helix Fossil and Old Amber. The most immediate thing to note are the two rock statues depicting Kabutops and Lileep while a fossilized Dragonite skeleton, note the wings and telltale horn on its head, is embedded in the wall. Where before it was just a couple of rocks and some trainers, the Gym now doubles as a museum. Moving on to Rustboro Gym, it has seen a major overhaul. So far, there doesn’t seem to be any changes to his team as we can see his Slaking has returned. After all, he’s still the player’s father and even retains the same dialog from the original game. He also seems to be a little younger than before though that might just be because of the evolved art style. Norman himself has only been changed slightly with his shirt now unzipped and switching out his boots for traditional Japanese sandals. The design of the gym itself is mostly the same, mainly just fleshing out the idea of it being based on a traditional Japanese home though the final room with Norman does have a new window showing off the scenery. As we can see, it still has two of the choices with either a speedy trainer or an accurate trainer. It looks to retain its gimmick of having the player choose what kind of challenge they want from the next trainer. Just like everyone else, the Gym Leaders have received redesigns, but even the gyms themselves seem to have been upgraded to varying degrees. The trailer begins by giving us a proper look at the first five Gyms of the game. Of course, we’d be lost without the trusty aid of the old Analysis Machine so let’s power it up and get to work! But as always, be sure to watch our previous Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire analyses as we’ll only be covering the new stuff here. We’ve got to analyze them all to see what secrets and hidden details we can find. Along with all of the Smash Bros announcements, Nintendo released a brand new trailer for Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, this time focusing on the Gym Leaders.
